Schizo Phonia

about

A piece made by re-recording old music stored on reel-to-reel tape, including the imperfections introduced by time and wear on the tape and tape player. The editing following said recording was a sort of meditation/ exploration of Schafer's concept of "Schizophonia" as "the split between an original sound and its electronic reproduction” (as paraphrased by Truax, 2001)- in this case, there are many small "splits", which were then re-configured to make something new. This piece also looks at the intersection between human-sound (ie voice) and human-made sound (ie: trains, helicopters).
